We’re partnering with the Loyola Family Business Center to showcase Taking Stock, an award-winning documentary that shares the story of two men and the complications they faced in the business of family.
Clive Stillerman is the son of a Polish immigrant and the owner of Benoni Discount Stores, a home goods shop owned by his family since the 1940s. What was once his beloved business that withstood divorce, recession and social change, Clive now jokingly refers to it as his “Empire of Dirt.” His son, Ben Stillerman, would be the emerging third generation owner, but instead he became a documentary filmmaker and his family’s crumbling business became the subject of his film.
Taking Stock explores the daily life connections between business and family, the family’s dynamic and attempts to reinvigorate the business.
Family and friends are invited to enjoy the film, refreshments and a Q&A with Director Ben Stillerman.
