CFBC Spotlight: Mike Weiler

Mike Weiler, Rydin
In our CFBC spotlight for April, we learn a little bit about Mike, his role at Rydin and what we he enjoys doing in his free time.

  1. What year was your company founded? Please tell us a little bit of the history behind the company.

Rydin was founded back in 1956 by Glen Rydin.  At the time, Rydin was known as Rydin Sign & Decal and the majority of what the company sold were street signs.  My father (Mark Weiler) purchased the company in 1980 and found the most profitable part of the business was the decal business. Over the next 5 years he transitioned the company to Rydin Decal. In 2014 we started the process of transitioning the company to Rydin since we are far more than just decals these days. Today, we are a custom printing company that offers distribution and software services - that’s a pretty big change from 1956!Rydin Decal Logo

  2. What is your role in the company?

I am the Director of Sales at Rydin. Our sales team is made up of 28 Rydinites (including myself). We have four teams within sales that focus on different markets. Each one of the teams has its own sales manager. My responsibility is to make sure my managers and sales team members have all the resources they need to meet their customers’ needs and win over new customers. My favorite part of my job is helping people (customers and Rydinites) reach their goals. It’s really exciting to see people accomplish the things they set their minds to.

  3. What family members work with you in the business?

My father is the CEO and has limited involvement in the day to day running of the company.  These days he works mostly with the executive team.  The day to day running of Rydin is done by our partner and Rydin President, Tom Meilinger.

  1. What has been the most rewarding aspect of your Forum experience and the CFBC?

The CFBC really helps you realize that you are not alone in your journey. I have found that whatever is happening in my professional and personal life, a member of my Forum or the CFBC has dealt with that situation before.

  1. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I am on a Bowling League. The team name is Spare Parts. I also enjoy going to the movies. But mostly I enjoy my time at home with my wife, Elizabeth, and our dogs, Pico and Odie.

  2. What book would you recommend to your fellow CFBC members?

Sticking Points: How to Get 4 Generations Working Together in the 12 Places They Come Apart, by Haydn Shaw

  1. What was your very first job?

Besides emptying trash cans at Rydin while my father worked, when I was 16 I got my first job and it was at a movie theater. Back in the 90’s Stratford Square Mall had an upstairs and a downstairs movie theater. I got a job at the lower level theater because a few of my friends worked there. You got free movies, free soda, and free popcorn - a pretty solid deal for a high school kid.

  2. Do you have any pets?

I am a proud dog father to Pico and Odie Weiler. Pico is 7 and Odie is 3. They are both Chihuahuas.

  3. What have you been listening to this week?

I listen to a ton of podcasts. My normal rotation includes: Tech News Today, The Dan Patrick Show, Song Exploder, In Our Time, and The Starters (an NBA focused podcast).
